NIED DONET (Dense Oceanfloor Network System for Earthquakes and Tsunamis) is an observatory system for earthquakes and tsunamis in deep oceanfloor areas around the Nankai trough where large subduction earthquakes have repeatedly occurred. The stations are deployed with an average spacing of 10 km. Each station has strong motion and broadband seismometers, hydrophones, differential and quartz pressure gauges, and thermometers. The system had been developed by JAMSTEC and were transferred to NIED in April 2016. Data recorded by multiple types of sensors are transmitted to NIED in real time and archived.
